The Nuevo Belén de Bajirá municipality, located in the department of Chocó, is now municipality number 1,004 in Colombia and 31 in the department.

In this municipality, which for years was a district and was in a territorial dispute between the department of Chocó and the department of Antioquia, elected Leopoldino Perea Caicedo as its new mayor.

The elections took place this Sunday, June 9, 2024. More than 8,000 people participated in the electoral festival in the municipal capital and townships that are equipped and have the services provided by the National Registry of Civil Status.

The candidate of Colombian Liberal Party won with 2,709 votes, a figure that represents 50.58% of those received during the day. The elections were accompanied by the national registrar Hernán Penagos, who announced that they took place completely normally.

“It was carried out in complete normality not only in the rural sector, in the different townships, but also in the municipal seat. “The technological process for counting and scrutiny is in place so that democracy triumphs today in this new municipality of the country.”stated the National Registrar.

The governor of the department of Chocó, Nubia Córdoba, through her X account, celebrated and thanked all the institutions who came together to achieve this triumph of democracy, an achievement for the Bajirenses, Chocoanos and Colombians.
