The increase in the vehicle fleet in Mendoza is worrying

The numbers are on the rise (in 2022 it increased by more than 26,000 vehicles), so Mendoza currently has more than 889,000 active vehicles throughout the provincial territory.

Road Safety: more breathalyzers added

The enormous number of vehicles and, above all, the behavior of motorists also cause thousands of fines daily.

Official statistics show that In 2023, Transit personnel from different municipalities alone (especially in Greater Mendoza) issued more than 94,000 fines for different violations. Meanwhile, the Mendoza Police prepared another 81,000 minutes.

The authorities claim that In 2024, statistics show an increase in the number of fines (comparing the amount there was at this point in 2023).

In this context, The National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) and the Ministry of Government, together with the Executive Road Safety Unit of Mendoza, signed an assistance and collaboration agreement for the implementation of prevention, control and inspection actions in matters of road safety.

In this way, the National Agency It will provide breathalyzers and other tools for operations in the province. Currently there are about 50 units in the province.

The problem arises in that, only in three places, these breathalyzers are calibrated, a measurement that has to be taken every six months.s. “It is only done in Azul, La Rioja and Buenos Aires, so sometimes there is a bottleneck and there are delays in calibrating them,” explained Orlando Corvalán, from the Mendoza Road Safety Agency.

On the other hand, it was announced that the Government of Mendoza will coordinate training on the subject for traffic agents and other operators who have some connection with road safety.
