The initiators of the “Learn with health” program were recognized by the Provincial Legislature – mendoza.edu.ar

The initiative, which has been in operation for more than eight years, promotes healthy habits and prevents pathologies in children and adolescents within the school environment. The distinction was proposed by senators Fernanda Sabadín, Mariana Zlobec and Yamel Ases.

This Monday, in the Margarita Malharro de Torres building, the promoters of the “Learning with Health” program were honored, an interdisciplinary and inter-ministerial proposal that seeks to prevent pathologies and promote healthy habits among children and adolescents in their educational environments. This recognition was possible thanks to a legislative project presented by provincial senators Fernanda Sabadín, Mariana Zlobec and Yamel Ases.

The event was attended by the authors of the project; Senator Alejandro Diumenjo; the coordinator of the Learn with Health program, Mariana Álvarez, and Lorena Ivansich, member of the technical team of the General Directorate of Schools.

“Learning with Health” is an educational-social-health program that evaluates, cares for and follows the school population temporally and spatially. It is implemented in early childhood educational centers, at the Initial Level for 5-year-old children, and in the 1st and 6th grades of the Primary Level, by prioritizing sectors of greatest social vulnerability. In this sense, school establishments are considered strategic for the development of actions with a significant impact on students, their immediate environment and the community in general.

One of the main focuses of the program is the prevention of health problems such as overweight, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle, which can affect school attendance and performance. To this end, dental, nutritional and physical activity examinations are carried out, in addition to prevention and health promotion activities, aimed at families and the educational community.

This program has a direct impact on students’ academic and cognitive development, improving their school performance and reducing the incidence of long-term chronic diseases, which decreases the need for costly treatments in the future.

During the meeting, Senator Fernanda Sabadín highlighted the importance of this program, implemented since 2016, and recognized the key people in its development, such as Adriana Rubio (current director of Initial Education of the DGE), Mariana Álvarez and Yanina Mazzaresi, she stressed. that “Learning with health” strengthens collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Education, and emphasized the need to continue supporting this initiative to face current problems in society.

For her part, Mariana Álvarez thanked the Mendoza Legislature and the senators for the recognition, and highlighted the importance of the stimulus received. The professional pointed out that the program, since its inception, has sought to articulate policies between health and education, working closely with territorial teams to improve the health and school trajectories of children and adolescents.

Lorena Ivansich also expressed her gratitude and admiration for the program, and highlighted its positive impact on early childhood and effective coordination with the health team.

The event concluded with the delivery of the recognition that declares the “Learning with Health” program of interest, and the invitation to continue participating and supporting this important initiative in the Provincial Legislature was reiterated.
