630 books arrived at the municipal public library of Armenia Carmelina Soto Valencia, a rich, diverse and enriching reading material, which, with its arrival, aims to strengthen and promote reading activities in the educational communities of the Quindian capital.

Through the ‘Reading is my Story’ campaign in its 2024 version, the National Library of Colombia and the National Network of Public Libraries delivered this endowment that promises to become the starting point to make reading a new strategy that connects and unites educational communities from an early age.

Yesenia Ortega González, librarian at the Carmelina Soto Valencia municipal public library in Armenia, said that ‘Reading is my Story in the library’ is an initiative launched in 2015 within the framework of the National Plan for Reading, Writing, Orality and Libraries (PNLEOB) , whose objective is to strengthen the relationship of boys, girls and their families with the services provided by the country’s libraries, as well as promote reading aloud, by delivering the latest titles in the ‘Reading is my story’ series to teachers, students and communities, through libraries.

In response to the joining of forces and request made between the Culture and Tourism Corporation of Armenia, the public library of Armenia and the educational institutions Camilo Torres, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán headquarters, and Olaya Herrera, Gabriela Mistral headquarters; These books came to the city to be participants and promoters of the “Reading is my Story” strategy, whose challenge is to promote these vital elements for education and life itself from an early age.

“For the current period, the benefiting educational communities will be the Camilo Torres headquarters of Jorge Eliecer Gaitán; Olaya Herrera main headquarters and its Gabriela Mistral headquarters. It should be noted that, in addition to the delivery of the books, we carry out activities to promote reading, writing and speaking, such as extension activities of the public library, in a joint effort with the Culture and Tourism Corporation and the Mayor’s Office of Armenia,” said Ortega González.

‘Reading is my Story’ fulfills its task of being an endowment that, in addition to ensuring easy access to various types of books within the facilities of educational institutions, promotes reading and creative writing, thus contributing to the comprehensive development of students. students. It is worth noting that the books will be available to students, who will be able to enjoy them by using them in various activities.

“It is worth mentioning that the city has already benefited from previous campaigns, favoring the entire educational community of the Ciudadela de Occitan educational institution, thereby providing the school library with bibliographical copies for the enjoyment and learning of the students. “said the librarian.

Various genres that range from regional literature and universal literature, to myths and legends from various regions, then promote their final destination use, reading, as a fundamental habit, which in turn allows access and promotion not only of culture, but also of education.
