A series of academics were unaware of being part of the Open University of Recoleta (UAR) created by the mayor Daniel Jadue in 2018, despite the fact that their names appear on the website as part of the educational establishment’s team.

In the “Academic and Social Council” the names appear: Faride Zeranthe astronomer Jose Maza, Diamela Eltit María Emilia Tijoux, Barbara Figueroa, Alejandro Goic, Marcos Barraza, among others. However, Professor Maza assured La Segunda that “I have never attended any meeting”.

Meanwhile, the former mayor of Recoleta, Ernesto Moreno, assured that he will find out why he is mentioned on the UAR page. While those close to Zerán indicated that the council has not been convened, but is part of the agreement signed with the University of Chile.

From the university they stated that They have the emails in which Maza would have accepted the proposal and in which he would have participated in activities. Along these lines, they added that said council is a malleable instance and that It has not met regularly since the pandemic.

During the last few days, this initiative has been highlighted by the Communist Party (PC) as one of the successful public policies administration of mayor Jadue. This, regarding the political persecution that they accuse for their recent preventive prison.

Let us remember that the communal chief was formalized this Monday in the Third Guarantee Court of Santiago for his participation in the alleged crimes of bribery, tax fraud, fraud and unfair administration in the context of the case Popular Pharmacies.
