The former Minister of Mines and Energy made it official through her Twitter account. She thanked President Petro and said that he will contribute from “a diplomacy for peace, environmental justice and life”:
A little over a month ago, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo signed the decrees that confirmed the appointments of Vélez as consul in London, and María Antonia Pardo, as consul in Santiago de Chile.
Vélez returns to government
After a controversial management in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, from which he resigned in July 2023. The portfolio was left in disarray, with internal problems, surrounded by accusations of possible nepotism and abuse of power, after being one of the most problematic things that Petro did when he just started his government.
Vélez’s career is academic and environmental activism. He has no experience in diplomacy.
