Between the winter cold and the summer heat

After a weekend in which La Rioja went from hot to cold, with an episode of rain (abundant in some points, such as Calahorra) in between, the region is preparing to live a few days marked by those continuous contrasts that are starring in an unpredictable spring, practically since it gave its first tails. That well-worn phrase “The weather is crazy” comes in handy to define the weather of recent weeks and it seems that it will also be a constant in the near future.

After the more than 30 degrees recorded on Saturday morning in numerous parts of the Rioja geography, the temperature gradually decreased until the mercury barely reached a maximum of twenty degrees on Sunday. And this will remain the case, according to Aemet, in the coming days, where few variations are expected. For today, Saint Barnabas Day, and tomorrow, yes, the chances of rain are high.

However, this stability will be short-lived, since in the last days of the week those typical contrasts of spring will appear again, but elevated to maximum power. Let’s take Logroño as an example: Aemet predicts, for Thursday, a general drop in minimum temperatures throughout La Rioja and these in the capital will not exceed six degrees (five are expected in Ezcaray). It will therefore be necessary to recover the coats from the closet to avoid having a bad time.

And the winter cold will give way to summer heat, 24 hours apart. Not in vain, the forecasts say that the maximums are going to hit a considerable rise on Friday, reaching above 30 degrees in practically all of La Rioja. In Logroño, for example, the Aemet takes the mercury up to 33, a figure that may even be higher in some parts of La Rioja Baja, such as Alfaro or Calahorra, where it can reach 35, if the Aemet forecasts are met. .

Thus, therefore, a resident of Logroño can go from putting on layers of clothing to combat the 6-degree minimum on Thursday to taking them all off to avoid suffocating with the 33-degree maximum on Friday. And at the weekend we will have to bundle up again, since the thermometer is not expected to go much above 20 degrees in the capital. It is clear that the phrase “The weather is crazy” is perfect for this spring of continuous changes.
