The summer period is approaching and with it, the long-awaited vacations. More and more people fantasize about getaways to charming enclaves that offer much more than sun and beach; places rural and picturesque to disconnect during summer rest days.

The municipality of Zuheros appears in this list, with 650 searches per month. The top of the most viral Andalusian towns is headed by the Malaga town of Frigiliana (4,080); followed by Setenil de la Bodegas from Cádiz, with 3,380 searches in one month; Grazalema and Castellar de la Frontera. From Granada there are the Alpujarra towns of Pampaneira and Capileira (950 and 830 searches, respectively); the Sevillian town of Aguadulce (800); Baños de la Encina, Jaén; Zuheros and, in tenth place, Cazalla de la Sierra (Seville).

The methodology used by Holidu has been based on data from the Semrush site, through which the average monthly search volume on Google for the last 12 months was examined with the key terms ‘what to do in’ and ‘what to see in‘ along with the name of each municipality. These criteria are based on the INE definition of ‘small municipality’. Based on this analysis, a ranking of the small municipalities with the highest search volume was prepared.

  • Bat Cave. One of the main tourist attractions of Zuheros is the Bat Cave, one of the most important Neolithic sites and the first with Upper Paleolithic rock art.

  • Zuheros Palace Castle. From any point in the town you can see the tower of this small fortress. It was built by the Arabs in the 9th century, and currently houses the remains of a Renaissance-style palace.

  • Archeological Museum. This enclosure houses the finds found in the Bat Cave and others discovered in the town. It stands out for the Neolithic period, with ceramics decorated with almagra, decorative elements and all types of stone and bone utensils.

  • Church of the Remedies. Former mosque, of which the base of the minaret (currently the bell tower) remains, its altarpiece and the carving of the Virgin itself, which dates from the 13th century, stand out.

  • Subbética Greenway. One of the most important greenways in Spanish geography passes through this municipality: the Olive Oil Greenway. It is about 128 kilometers between the provinces of Jaén and Córdoba, ideal for enjoying cycling on a path without great difficulty.

  • Gastronomy. Zuheros has its own gastronomy with a large number of dishes based on local products, such as sobrehusa (bean stew with hard-boiled egg); the cachorreñas (cod with orange, egg, bread and tomato), the carnation and, of course, their cheeses, of excellent quality.

It is not the first time that Zuheros appears in a ranking, since it has even been classified as one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. It is located just 76 kilometers from the capital and has an interesting tourist and gastronomic offer.
