On the night of this Tuesday, June 11, the identity of two people who had been murdered in recent days in the municipality of Ituangonorth of Antioquia.

The identity of one of the victims, who was found with clear signs of violence, is Alcides Cuerquía Rojaswho until recently was the president of the Community Action Board of the Gucharaquero village, in said municipality, as revealed by Caracol Radio.

Cuerquía and other men were found dead by residents of the area last Sunday, June 9, after, according to what they say, having been beheaded in a coffee plantation Township.

The identity of the other victim has not yet been revealed and the authorities have not yet commented on the matter.

With this homicide they would be at least 79 social leaders murdered in the country so far in 2024, according to the account kept by the NGO Indepaz.

The last case reported in Antioquia was the murder of Jaider García Uribea political leader of the Colombia Humana movement in the municipality of San Luis Antioquia, eastern Antioquia, at the beginning of last May.

García Uribe was killed by armed men who intercepted him while he was traveling in his car with his brother on the Medellín-Bogotá highway in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Puerto Triunfo.

According to the NGO, García’s son, Juan David, was also a social and political leader in his region and was murdered three years ago.
