Jairo Pacheco, municipal representative of Ciénaga, blamed the company Operadores de la Sierra for the recent blockages in the municipality of Ciénaga, Magdalena, as a result of the poor drinking water service. The Head of the Public Ministry demanded that the company take measures to improve the quality of services and avoid new protests that affect mobility and the national economy.

In dialogue with this medium, Pacheco highlighted that Ciénaga, due to its strategic position between the departments of Atlántico and Magdalena, has been the recurring scene of road blockades as a form of protest and a call for attention to the authorities. “The community, especially in the upper part of the Sierra Nevada, has used these blockades to express their discontent, mainly due to the lack of fulfillment of promises in basic infrastructure projects,” explained the Personero.

During the year 2024, six significant blockages have been recorded on the Caribbean Trunk, the main road that facilitates transportation between both departments. According to Pacheco, these blockades have been motivated mainly by problems related to the lack of essential services such as drinking water and electricity in rural areas and marginalized communities.

“It is not only a problem of road infrastructure, but also of development and attention to the basic needs of our population,” added the municipal official.
