The Cuban State reiterated its determination to evaluate all possible avenues for a closer relationship with the BRICS, in search of mutual benefits, including the possibility of becoming an Associate State of the group.

During his speech at the Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, pointed out that the Island is happily inserted in long-range initiatives promoted by member countries of the Group, such as the cases of the Belt and Road and other Chinese global initiatives and the Eurasian Economic Union projects as an observer member.

In addition, Cuba has maintained excellent relations with the founding members of the Group, as well as with those who recently joined
and the countries invited to this meeting.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website, on behalf of the Caribbean nation, Rodríguez Parrilla supported the Brics’ demand for an end to the genocide in Palestine and the exercise of the inalienable rights of his people, including having their own State in the borders prior to 1967 and with its capital in East Jerusalem, as well as the return of refugees.

He called for an end to unilateral coercive measures against Russia and NATO actions to fuel the conflict.

He also thanked the permanent and supportive support of the countries present and the entire international community against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.

He also praised the strengths of the New Bank for the Development of the Brics so that the projects they have proposed to develop have indigenous financial support, based on the use of their own national currencies.

The Brics represent more than 45 percent of the world’s population and a third of the planet’s GDP, recalled the Chancellor, who added that they are consolidating themselves as a key actor in global geopolitics, with growing relevance on a planetary scale and hope for the countries of the South in building a more just, equitable and sustainable multilateral international order.
