MIDAGRI INSTALLS DEMONSTRATION PLOT TO IMPROVE QUALITY AND YIELD OF ALFALFA IN THE DISTRICT OF TRITA – RCR Peru

  • INIA transfers technologies with the purpose of improving agronomic performance in cultivated pastures.

Amazonas, June 12, 2024.- The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), has installed a demonstration plot in the cultivation of alfalfa, for the benefit of small and medium producers in the Cruz Pata annex, in the district of Trita, province of Luya (Amazonas).

The installation of this demonstration plot of cultivated pastures is intended to increase the transfer of agricultural technology, which will allow improving the yield of pastures, obtaining alfalfa crops with good genetic adaptability characteristics for their various commercial uses, as well as agronomic management packages.

To this end, the INIA, through the Amazonas Agrarian Experimental Station, has carried out a training course where they have transferred methodologies on the installation and management of cultivated pastures, use of quality seeds, control of pests and diseases, production of organic fertilizer, analysis of soils, among other important ones.

The generation of these technologies will increase the productive yield of hectares of pasture by more than 50%, obtain alfalfa with excellent adaptability characteristics, as well as reduce crop losses due to pests and diseases. This will benefit the producer’s economy.

For the installation process of the demonstration plot, the INIA carried out soil quality analysis processes for agricultural purposes to determine the level of fertility or possible degradation. The activity had the strategic support of the Trita Central Executing Nucleus (NEC) of FONCODES.
