The Superintendence of Surveillance issued a precautionary measure after the patrols of men dressed in black and armed that were carried out in Sincelejo, Sucre, as a security strategy by the city’s mayor’s office.

The decision of the Superintendency of Surveillance was made after having carried out an inspection of the private security company Vipers Ltda, with which the mayor of Sincelejo, Yahir Acuña, contracted mobile and fixed security services until December 2027 for a sum close to 25 billion pesos.

That is to say, the precautionary measure consisting of the “immediate suspension of patrol activities and all those that transcend exclusive activities of the public force, rrelated to the restoration and/or conservation of public order.”

Can read:

“Therefore, in order to safeguard the provision of private surveillance and security services in compliance with the applicable regulations in force to ensure respect for the rights and freedoms of the community, taking into account the prior inspection visit and the corresponding body of evidence, A precautionary measure of immediate suspension of activities will be imposed, which complies with the legal canons established for this purpose.the decision document says.

Yahir Acuña questioned the Ministry of Defense for asking him to dismantle the security front

In an interview with La W, the mayor of Sincelejo, Yahir Acuña, defended the decision to establish a private security group in the capital of Sucre to support the Police in the fight against crimewhich will be monitored by the surveillance superintendence.

The mayor also said that he will meet with the Minister of Defense to explain the scope and regulatory support of said group, ruling out for the moment that this special group (attached to a security company) will be dismantled as requested by Iván Velásquez himself.

“I believe that the minister reached a point of opinion rather than being in line with what is established by the same norms that govern the Colombian state. This service is at the service of public works and public parks, which are 50” he claimed.

He also explained that this group does not compare at all with the “Convivir”, one of the main concerns that Minister Velásquez explained, stating that times of paramilitary terror could return.

“It’s abysmal, it’s completely different. If the surveillance companies cannot take care of our public parks, our public works, we are faced with the need to modify the constitution and the law and put an end to the surveillance companies. I don’t know what it is that generates so much of this type of controversy.” said.

He also denied any report that had been presented with alleged excesses of these people who are going to work in the private security group.
