Salvatore Mancuso, former commander of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, AUC, assured that former commissioner Luis Carlos Restrepo ordered the murder of Vicente Castaño, one of the founders of the paramilitary organization.
“The high commissioner, with the National Government, organized the death of Vicente Castaño and extradited the rest of us. This is a terrible situation where there was a conspiracy from the government itself to assassinate Vicente Castaño,” he said in dialogue with Daniel Colonel.
“Vicente Castaño had sent him (Álvaro Uribe) right because the Peace Commissioner told Vicente to surrender, there was no reason for him to continue illegally when we had all surrendered. The problem was that the government (at that time) ) had not complied,” he added.
According to Mancuso, he learned of a letter from ‘Gordo Pepe’, “whose family was kidnapped and tied up so that he would hand over Vicente Castaño. Through him they reached another person, the only one who could get by car to where Vicente was. on a farm near the Ciénaga de Ayapel.”
“When Vicente saw that other cars had entered, he fired a few shots at those who were going there, members of the Dijin and demobilized members of the AUC, and that was when he died. They say that he shot himself in the head in a bathroom when he felt that he no longer had any escape from the action of this joint group,” he explained.
