MUNICIPALITY OF VIÑA DEL MAR REDUCED DEPLOYMENT OF EQUIPMENT AND LOGISTIC RESOURCES IN FACE OF FORECAST OF INTENSE RAINS

Mayor Macarena Ripamonti explained that with recently acquired machinery, the cleaning of channels has been intensified. Preventive evacuation was decreed in the sinkhole sector. Shelters and delivery of protective materials are available for the community and have been delivered during the day.

The Municipality of Viña del Mar is carrying out a redoubling of preventive measures, given the forecast of an intense frontal system predicted for these days, which is why the declaration of Yellow Alert in the region and of Communal Preventive Emergency has been established.

This Wednesday, Mayor Macarena Ripamonti led a new meeting of the Emergency Communal Disaster Risk Management Committee (Cogrid), to refine the measures that have been taken to face this new hydrometeorological event.

“We have been preparing for this winter season for more than two months. We have new machinery worth $3,000 million, such as motor graders, backhoes, which have been put to work on the roads and cleaning the rainwater systems that correspond to us as a Municipality,” commented the community leader.

“The predicted water load is going to be so much, in a short time, that it puts a lot of pressure on our services, so we are going to have teams deployed throughout the territory. On the other hand, a special team to attend to the fire area for a possible mass removal and, on the other hand, a number available for those who may have damage to their homes and a special number for general emergencies,” the mayor explained.

Regarding the sector where the sinkholes have been generated in Cochoa, the communal authority indicated that “we have already proceeded with the preventive evacuation of the buildings that unfortunately have had this sinkhole.”

SPECIAL MEASURES

Mayor Ripamonti reiterated that there are different teams of municipal officials deployed throughout the commune: “There are 24/7 shifts and we also have shelters available for anyone who has a problem day and night,” she said.

Regarding the suspension of classes in municipal schools and high schools, the community leader confirmed that the measure will take effect on June 13 and 14, “that is, Thursday and Friday only for the 53 educational establishments of the corporate administration.”

Within the framework of the preventive plan established by the Municipality, as in previous situations, preventive patrols will be arranged to make visible the spaces that need to have polyethylene and other protective materials.

In different sectors of the commune, collection centers for river bags have been deployed, to be able to distribute them more quickly to the sectors that are required.

Through the Community Development Directorate, there is permanent contact with the leaders of the territories so that the DIDECO and Risk and Disaster Management teams can quickly respond to emergencies that may arise.

PREVENTIVE WORK

The preventive work carried out by the Municipality has included protection with polyethylene in sectors where landslides and small sinkholes occurred after the passage of previous frontal systems.

Maintenance and cleaning work on drains and channels has also been carried out so that the rainwater evacuation system works in the most optimal way possible.

The Municipality has arranged 24/7 shifts for the Risk and Disaster Management, Operations and Services, Public Security and DIDECO teams to deliver the necessary aid in the territory as soon as it is required.

EMERGENCY NUMBERS

For any event, the municipality enabled an Emergency Center, with the following mobile and WhatsApp numbers: +56 968328163 – +56 973867283 – +56 974988650 – +56 996405665
