Participants in the San Juan pilgrimage must register before the 20th

The celebration of San Juan has become one of the most participated and loved traditions in Arnedo. On this occasion, the Arnedans will begin to celebrate on Saturday night with the recovery of the festival, they will experience the big day on the morning of Sunday, June 22, and they will warm up Monday’s awakening with chocolate.

The first date to enjoy will be on Saturday from 10:00 p.m. at Puerta Munillo with the Ikebana concert. «For different reasons and because it coincided with other activities, it had not been held in recent years. On this occasion we resume it with live music with songs of all kinds,” invites the councilor of Culture, Chus Zapata. The main celebration will be on Sunday morning, when the pilgrims – whether on foot, by cart or on horseback – go to the central Plaza Nuestra Señora de Vico at 8:30 a.m. to leave at 9:15 a.m. towards the esplanade of the Vico monastery. , which will host lunches, distribution of chocolate, dances and presentation of the prize for the most original car.

Of course, so that all participants can have accident coverage, the City Council requires prior registration of all those who are going to come with horses and carts, before Thursday the 20th at the House of Culture, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“We encourage everyone to wear the San Juan costume,” encourages Zapata to give the celebration a traditional atmosphere. The first to leave will be the riders with their horses, followed by the carts with horses and the tractors and carts. Among them, following criteria such as traditional decoration, the clothing of its occupants and entertainment, the Vallaroso scout group will award the prize to the most traditional car of this edition. Furthermore, on the esplanade under the monastery, the El Emboque round will cheer everyone up with their popular songs.

The celebration will culminate on Monday morning in compliance with the saying that ‘you eat chocolate for San Juan’. The Vallaroso scout group and the Friends of Arnedo Association will collaborate with the distribution of chocolate from 7:30 a.m.
