The Ibagué Transport Terminal became an artistic canvas, as a result of an initiative that is part of a strategy to promote tourism in Colombia through murals. This project, designed to boost the flow of both national and foreign tourists, was announced at an event full of folklore, art and tradition of the Department of Tolima.

The announcement was made by Fontur’s general manager, Álvaro Balcázar, during the inauguration of the Country of Beauty murals. “We are doing these murals as a tribute to the regionto its artists, seeking to give a message that impacts and shows everything that a region has to present to tourists,” explained Balcázar.

Furthermore, he stated that “It is a mural that shows the diversity, fauna, crafts and music of the region. The intention is that a tourist who arrives here, in the midst of his rush, stops for a moment and contemplates the art of the region, and realizes the many options he has to visit, beyond his initial plan. “We want it to be filled with many more experiences, and that is what we are showing with these murals.”

The work, called ‘Ibagué Mágico’, It was created by five artists: Xyomara Chalá, Juan Carlos Millón, Daniel Álvarez, Chalá and Trazo. For more than 10 days, these artists transformed the walls of the terminal into murals that capture the cultural wealth and traditions of the region.

Álvaro Balcázar also highlighted the commitment of the National Government, the Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Fontur in promoting the cultural wealth and biodiversity of Ibagué and its surroundings. “For Ibagué there will always be the full commitment of the National Government. We have infrastructure projects in Prado, Honda, and other municipalities around the Magdalena River. In addition, we are carrying out strong promotion under strategies such as ‘Colombiar’, and that is what we must do with Tolima, that they know that natural wealth that is worth all Colombians and foreign visitors coming to see.”

The mural project It not only beautifies the spaces, but also seeks to attract visitors so that they appreciate the cultural and natural wealth of Tolima. Upon arriving at the terminal, travelers can enjoy an artistic display that highlights local culture and traditions, inviting them to explore more of the Department.
