After the tie at 36, Vice President Victoria Villarruel twisted the vote and the basic law was approved in general. She will now return to Deputies. Libertarian senator Juan Carlos Pagotto voted in favor of the law, Florencia López and Fernando Rejal against it.

The Senate gave the first law to Milei, after six months of management. With more last minute changes, The ruling party achieved general approval of the Bases bill. With 36 votes in favor and 36 against, the vice president Victoria Villarruel broke the tie in favor of the ruling party and became the figure of the night.

«Today we saw a violent Argentina and an Argentina of the workers who ask that the vote that in November of last year elected a change be respected,” Villarruel introduced to present his vote, amid shouts from the senators who repudiated the repression in the demonstrations that took place outside Congress.

Without privatizations, with limitations in the RIGI and without the elimination of the pension moratorium, the ruling party now points out that Deputies insist with the original project and unwanted emergency concessions are discarded. Enabling more changes allowed senators to vote in favor of initiatives and prevented them from shielding the rejection with 2/3knowing that the lower house can undo it.

For La Rioja, the libertarian senator Juan Carlos Pagotto voted in favor and the Peronists Fernando Rejal and Florencia López against.

In practice, the Base Law frees Milei’s hands to move forward with the state reformreorganize the public administration, privatize some companies and open the country to foreign investments and major national with strong tax benefits.
