Córdoba demands differential value in energy rates for generating departments

The department of Córdoba, being an important energy generator in Colombia, requires a differential value in the cost of the kilowatt for the departments that contribute significantly to the national energy system. Governor Erasmo Zuleta questions that Córdoba does not receive direct benefits, despite its fundamental role in the production of electricity.

“If we generate energy here and precisely today that we are talking about this summit in this energy mining forum, why if Córdoba generates energy, why don’t the departments that generate energy have a direct benefit?” Zuleta said during an interview.

The departmental leader suggested that the energy generating departments should have a differential value in the cost of electricity, as a way to offset their contribution to the national energy system. This proposal seeks to recognize and reward the efforts of regions like Córdoba in the production of this vital resource for the development of the country.

The demand for preferential treatment in energy rates is framed in a context of high rates and deficiencies in the provision of service in the Caribbean region. Zuleta criticizes the poor quality of the electricity supply and the constant rationing that affects Montería and a large part of the department.

“We cannot continue to tolerate poor and expensive service,” emphasized the governor, who urged the Ministry of Mines and the energy company to materialize the promised relief for high electricity rates in the region.

The requirement for a differential value in energy rates for generating departments has not been echoed by the National Government or the authorities in charge of regulating the country’s energy market.
