The Government Council of La Rioja has authorized this June 12, to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural World and Environment, the expenditure of 8 million euros until 2027 for the granting of aid aimed at improving irrigation infrastructure and other subsidies to Irrigation Communities and communities of water users, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

Among the possible types of eligible investments There are irrigation infrastructures associated with the modernization or new transformation and expansion of irrigation areas, energy savings, reduction of electrical costs and the implementation or improvement of information and communications technologies (ICT) to improve management. of water and energy. Only infrastructure that is designed to achieve a minimum percentage of potential water savings of 10% will be eligible.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural World and Environment has among its goals ensure that the Rioja agricultural sector has modern and efficient infrastructure that facilitates the development of a competitive and quality activity. Among these infrastructures on which action must be taken, irrigation infrastructure is of capital importance, as it allows diversifying agricultural production and ensuring crop yields by guaranteeing sufficient water supply to crops, thus making agricultural holdings improve their resilience. in the face of scenarios with water deficit caused by the effects of climate change.

The beneficiaries of the aid will be the Communities of Irrigators or other communities of water users mainly linked to irrigation, owners or those managing irrigation infrastructures, who have their corresponding water rights in force and their scope of action is within the territory of La Rioja.

He minimum investment for these works will be 200,000 euros and the maximum amount individualized amount of each subsidy will be 60%. The deadline for submitting applications will be 20 business days from the day following the publication of the call extract in the Official Gazette of La Rioja (BOR).

At the same time, the Government of La Rioja, in search of strategic planning that establishes objectives and guidelines in actions regarding irrigation, has been working since the beginning of this year on the preparation of the La Rioja Irrigation Master Plan, which is in its last stages of preparation.
