La Rioja flatly rejects singular financing for Catalonia

The Government of La Rioja is categorically opposed to singular financing for Catalonia. This was announced this Thursday by the Minister of the Treasury, Alfonso Domínguez, in the corridors of the Parliament of La Rioja upon learning of the offer from the Government of Pedro Sánchez to his Catalan partners.

“We are categorically opposed and will try to prevent a bilateral agreement that entails singular financing for Catalonia, because that is a privilege for Catalonia and, therefore, a detriment for all Rioja citizens,” Domínguez firmly stated in response to the advance announcement. by the first vice president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, that the Government of Spain will offer Catalonia “unique financing, which takes into account the peculiarities of the community.”

Montero, who has also announced that he is already negotiating with ERC the forgiveness of 15,000 million euros that was agreed with this formation for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, has defended that Catalonia “will have to see its needs met” and has specified that this unique financing It will take place within the framework of the reform of the financing system “within a model valid for all communities, but that must address the singularities that may arise in certain territories for historical reasons, characteristics, orography.”

The Rioja Minister of the Treasury has warned that this singular financing and the possibility of transferring up to 15,000 million euros for a single autonomous community “break two of the most basic constitutional principles to which the financing of the autonomous communities and life are subject.” and the public services of citizens, such as the principles of equality and solidarity between all regions. After warning that this decision means “transferring resources from the least prosperous communities to the most prosperous, as in this case is Catalonia, in a context in which the payments on account of the financing system have not yet been updated and the State has “than transferring 300 million euros to La Rioja alone this year, we find ourselves with a privilege for a single autonomous community.”

Unacceptable

After insisting that what is needed is a new financing system for all autonomous communities “based on the principles of equality and interterritorial solidarity that allows for the same financing for public services in all parts of Spain.”

The Riojan councilor has called the minister’s statements “unacceptable” and after reiterating the frontal opposition of the Rioja Executive, he has revealed that “the Treasury councilors of the autonomous communities, of various political parties, not only of the PP, are in contact to “See what kind of joint actions we can carry out.” In this sense, Alfonso Domínguez has confirmed that it has already been requested that “the Conference of Presidents be convened immediately, the regional presidents and President Sánchez have to talk about the financing that affects all Spaniards.” “We ask that the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council be urgently convened,” he added, concluding that “if this is the case we will take more steps when the time comes.”
