“The regions need clarity about the announced budget cut”: Governor of Córdoba

At the opening of the 2024 Governors’ Summit, held in Montería, the governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta Bechara, expressed his concern about the budget cuts announced by the national government.

The sectional leader said that the regions cannot be the ones sacrificed or affected by budget cut decisions, since it is difficult to meet the goals of the development plans.

The National Government warned about the need to make a cut to the General Budget of the Nation, projected between 6% and 7%, due to cash flow problems. This measure could have a significant impact, especially in regions such as the Colombian Caribbean, where departments rely heavily on national transfers and royalties.

The uncertainty generated by this situation has led local leaders to request to the Ministry of Finance and the Petro Government to clarify the specific aspects of the budget will be affected by the cuts.

The Governors’ Summit has become a crucial setting to discuss these concerns, seeking to ensure that regions are not disproportionately affected by austerity measures.
