The National Meteorological Service (SMN) launched this Thursday a series of yellow and orange alerts in 14 provinces due to adverse weather. Various regions remained on yellow alert due to strong winds.

The notice reached areas of the provinces of Salta, Formosa, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Santa Fe, Corrientes, Córdoba, San Luis, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego.

In the capital of Cordoba, a maximum of 32°, with strong gusts of wind that can reach between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour during the morning. In the afternoon, the gusts would reach between 42 and 50 kilometers per hour, according to the SMN. Towards the evening, the wind will rotate towards the south.

Despite the high temperatures, the SMN forecaster, Marcelo Madelón, warned in Chain 3 that a cold front will enter in the next few hours. “Certain temperatures exceeding 30 degrees in the center of the country and more than 33 at the moment in the north. But a cold front is already entering.”

In addition, he warned about the situation in the mountain range and foothills of San Juan, Mendoza, La Rioja and Catamarca where “there is a strong wind” which could lead to fires due to the dryness. He also stated that “starting tonight, the rotation of the wind to the south in the center of the country and in Cuyo will lead to a marked drop in temperature.”

“Starting on Friday, the temperature begins to drop throughout the center of the country,” he said.

In the east of the province of La Rioja, San Juan, north of San Luis and west of Córdoba, winds from the west are expected with speeds between 30 and 50 km/h, with gusts that can reach 70 km/h.

On the other hand, in mountain areas the warning is raised to Orange alert.

In this case, the agency indicated that “the area will be affected by winds from the western sector with speeds between 60 and 80 km/h, and gusts that can exceed 120 km/h, which may be exceeded occasionally, especially in areas high”. This phenomenon can cause a significant reduction in visibility.
