The Municipality of Guaitecas is promoting the creation of the first basketball league in the commune
This is an unprecedented initiative in the commune, as explained by the person in charge of the Sports Unit of the Municipality of Guaitecas, Mauro Andrade, who pointed out that there are already four teams that will participate and will be sponsored by institutions of the commune, such as La Armada. , the municipality, the health post and the Repollal School.
“The modality of this league consists of an open call to the community, those who want to join any team can do so and the minimum age is 15 years and minors must do so with the authorization of their parents,” said the municipal official. .
Andrade mentioned that so far more than 60 people have registered, joining one of the four teams that make up the incipient basketball league.
Three month championship
On the other hand, the idea is to organize a championship for women and men that lasts two to three months and in the modality of all against all, in two or three wheels, said the person in charge of the municipality’s sports unit.
Andrade also pointed out that this idea arises from the need to organize sporting events and competitions other than football in the community and thus incorporate more people into the practice of physical and sporting activities.
“We from the municipality have been promoters of this league, due to the need to diversify sports practice in the commune. Here what is practiced the most is soccer, so we want to see how this basketball league is going, which is a widely practiced sport,” said the sports manager.
Finally, Mauro Andrade was happy about the call and thanked the institutions that have sponsored the teams that will give life to this communal basketball league. “The teams will have the names of the sponsoring institutions,” he concluded.
