A tornado was visible this Wednesday afternoon in the community La Carlotain the Jovellanos municipality, province of Matanzas.
“Favourable and typical atmospheric conditions for the current time of year led to the formation of a funnel cloud or cloud tail, as these natural phenomena are commonly known”reported a local source.
“No damage reported so far, The sighting was nothing more than a mere scare for those who saw the phenomenon from their balconies.“added the note.
However, the source specified that local authorities were investigating any type of impact in areas close to the area.
Until now, The Cuban official press has not updated that there was damage as a result of the meteorological phenomenon.
This is the second event of its kind in the province of Matanzas in just one week.
Last June 5 a tornado left material damage in almost twenty homes in the town of San Antonio de Cabezas, in the Unión de Reyes municipality.
Marixma Miyares, director of the Provincial Meteorological Center, later clarified that the damage caused was the result of a “severe local storm” accompanied by strong winds, and not a tornado. However, those who experienced it firsthand identified the phenomenon as such: like a tornado.
In December of last year another tornado impacted in that case in the municipality of Los Arabosleaving damage to at least 11 homes, although no injuries or loss of life were reported.
