Córdoba is consolidated as the epicenter of the energy transition in Colombia. This was stated by the Vice Minister of Energy, Javier Campillo Jiménez, highlighting that in this Caribbean department more than 22 generation projects are registered, which add up to a capacity close to 2 gigawatts.

“That figure represents 33% of the goal that we have programmed in this government for 2026”stressed the official, who participated in the Governors’ Summit organized by the National Federation of Departments.

Campillo Jiménez emphasized that “it is essential that departments like this, which are leading the energy transition, “They serve as an example for other departments to make a responsible energy transition.”

The vice minister called for coordination between the national government, the governorates and the territorial entities. ““We must guarantee that we make a fair, responsible energy transition that allows us to grow in energy generation, while diversifying our matrix for a continuous, reliable service with fair rates.”he stated.

In that sense, he praised Córdoba’s progress: “We already have to prepare for climate change, and for the coming years we need a diversified energy capacity, like the projects that are being built in this department”.

The vice minister also highlighted the resilience of the Colombian energy system, which endured the driest months of drought in the last 40 years, thanks to prior coordination and planning. However, he warned about the need to diversify generation sources in the face of climate challenges.
