The fans keep their hopes intact of seeing the Colombian team repeat the feat of 2001, when it was crowned champion of the America Cupa tournament that was precisely played on coffee soil.

With a roster that remains in the history of continental football, ‘la Tricolor’ achieved what is until now its only trophy as a national team 23 years ago. It was July 29, 2001 when Colombia defeated Mexico in the grand final by the slightest difference at the Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium, in Bogotá.

The winning goal came in the 65th minute from the hand of defender Iván Ramiro Córdoba, who became the main protagonist of the Colombian team’s title by scoring with a header after receiving a cross from Iván López from a free kick.

At that moment, euphoria took over the entire country and at the end of the match there was celebration in all the streets of the national territory for the important victory, which has not been repeated.

What Iván Ramiro Córdoba does

The former soccer player, now 47 years old, retired as a player in 2012 with the Inter Milan shirt, an Italian club for which he is a reference for his valuable contribution during the twelve years he played for the team.

His debut in soccer was in 1993 with the Deportivo Rionegro team, then a competitor in the First Category B of Colombian soccer. He was then hired by Atlético Nacional, a club in which he stood out for his quality and with which he won the Inter-American Cup in 1997.

His good performance aroused interest in international teams, with Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro of Argentina being the first to sign him. Then, in 2000, Iván Ramiro Córdoba arrived at Inter Milan and became one of the club’s historical idols due to the number of titles he won with the blue and black colors.

However, after his retirement in 2012, Córdoba did not completely distance himself from football, but instead decided to continue making a living from this sport from a managerial perspective.

For several years Iván Ramiro Córdoba has served as sports director and co-owner of Venezia FC, an Italian soccer club based in the city of Venice, in the Veneto region, in the northeast of the country.

Until a few months ago, Venezia FC competed in the second division of Italian football, but managed to be promoted to Serie A and will fight for the top title in that country starting in the 2024/25 season.
