Sarmiento de Junín defeated Estudiantes de La Plata 2-0 at home in a match corresponding to the fifth round of the Professional Football League (LPF) and achieved their second victory in the championship.

Those led by Israel Damonte took the lead 13 minutes into the second half through Gabriel Gudiño, who scored only after a great pass from Manuel García. When the game was close to 70 minutes, García himself was the one who extended the lead for those from Junín after taking advantage of a weak rebound from Estudiantes goalkeeper, Matías Mansilla.

Thanks to this great victory at the Eva Perón Stadium, Sarmiento reached seven points in the championship and climbed to 11th position. Estudiantes, for their part, have the same number of units, but are below Junín’s team for having a worse goal difference.

These three points are key for Junín’s team, as it allows them to go into the break with some breathing space in the fight to avoid relegation.

Pincha, champion of the League Cup a little over a month ago, had started in the Professional League with two wins, but little by little they deflated and ended the semester outside the top ten in the championship and with the hands empty at the international level, since they finished last in their Copa Libertadores group.

The next match for Sarmiento and Estudiantes, against Rosario Central and Unión respectively, will be in July, after the Copa América.
