A total of 170 runners, from 25 teams, were presented this Thursday at the Main Park of Guateque, to compete in the 74th edition of the Vuelta a Colombia – Ministerio del Deporte 2024.
The most traditional race on the national calendar will travel starting this Friday, June 14, more than 1,295 kilometers between the departments of Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Tolima, Risaralda, Caldas, Valle and Antioquia, with a luxury poster made official on the opening day of activities , by the sports directors of the six international and 19 national squads that will be part of the competition.
There will be 46 runners from the Under-23 category and 124 cyclists belonging to the Elite category (30 of them foreigners), among whom are experienced and category runners, such as Rodrigo Contreras and Sergio Luis Henao, from Nu Colombia; Fabio Duarte, from Team Medellín; Jonathan Caicedo and Diego Camargo, from Team Petrolike; Juan Diego Alba and Byron Guama, from Best PC; Alejandro Osorio, from GW Erco Shimano; Wilson Estiben Peña from Team Sistecrédito, and Alexander Gil and Johan Colón, from Orgullo Paisa.
During the Team Presentation, a tribute was paid to the first champion from Boyacá of the Vuelta a Colombia (1962), the native of Guayatá, Roberto ‘Pajarito’ Buitrago, and several winners of the race were exalted, such as Rafael Niño (1970, 73, 75, 77, 78, 80), Patrocinio Jiménez (1976), Félix Cárdenas (2011 and 2012) and Diego Camargo (2020).
The competition will begin this Friday with a 7.4 kilometer prologue that will be held, starting at 1:00 in the afternoon, on the road that leads to the municipality of Macanal, Boyacá, from the Chivoreño restaurant to the Main Park.
This edition of the Vuelta a Colombia will have a live broadcast on the RCN Channel, starting on Saturday the 15th, from 11:00 in the morning.
