According to a statement from the Cuban Revolutionary War Navy, the ship belongs to a new series recently introduced into the northern nation’s navy, and its visit to the Caribbean island highlights bilateral collaboration to contribute to peace in the region. .

The arrival of the vessel occurs in the context of the eightieth year of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with the northern country and the 50th anniversary of ties of mutual cooperation, the note added.

Before the ship returns to its port of origin in Halifax, located in Nova Scotia, Canada, the stay here will allow for strengthening the long-standing ties between Cuba and Canada, the information from the military entity stated.

The arrival of HMCS Margaret Brooke continues the visits received in 2016 and 2018, by the frigates HMCS Fredericton and HMCS Charlottetown, respectively, the Revolutionary Navy noted.

During their stay, the Canadian sailors will carry out a program of activities, which includes courtesy meetings with the head of the Revolutionary War Navy and the governor of Havana, Yanet Hernández.

In turn, the training ship AB Simón Bolívar, from Venezuela, will visit the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba from the 15th to the 19th, as part of the XXXIV Training Cruise Abroad in 2024.

On June 12, a group of Russian Navy ships made up of the frigate Gorshkov, the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, the fleet oil tanker Pashin and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker also docked in this capital.

The population will be able to visit the Gorshkov frigate of the ship detachment, today and tomorrow between 12:00 and 16:00 (local time) at the Cruise Terminal of this capital.

Visits by naval units from other countries are a historical practice of the revolutionary government with the nations with which it maintains relations of friendship and cooperation, highlighted a statement from the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).

None of the ships carry nuclear weapons, so their stopover in our country does not represent a threat to the region, indicated a note from the FAR.

According to the notification, the visit “corresponds with the historical friendly relations between Cuba and Russia,” in addition to complying with “the international regulations of which Cuba is a State Party.”
