US submarine in waters of illegal naval base in Cuba
Washington, June 13 (Prensa Latina) The fast attack submarine USS Helena, of the United States Navy, arrived in the waters of the perimeter of its naval base located in the territory illegally occupied by Cuba in Guantánamo (east).
“The fast attack submarine USS Helena is in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as part of a routine port visit, while transiting the geographic area of responsibility of the United States Southern Command,” that military force said today in a message posted on X.
In justifying the presence of the warship, he pointed out that this occurs while “it carries out its global mission of maritime security and national defense” and added that “the location and transit of the ship were previously planned.”
The Southern Command statement came one day after the arrival at the port of Havana of a detachment of Russian warships, which will visit until June 17.
The fleet consists of the frigate Gorshkov, the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, the fleet oil tanker Pashin and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker.
A historical practice of Cuba with the nations with which it maintains ties of friendship and cooperation are visits by naval units from other countries.
Starting tomorrow until June 19, the Royal Canadian Navy patrol ship, HMCS Margaret Brooke, and the training ship AB Simón Bolívar, from Venezuela, will also dock in the port of Havana.
