This Thursday, June 13, members of the Embera Katio community, who have been camping in the National Park for eight months, They marched from 35th Street and 7th Street to the center of the city.

Then, they took over one of the ATMs located near the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, as a protest. Since the afternoon, nearly 300 indigenous people settled in front of the Ministry of the Interior facilities.

This Thursday, The indigenous people held a meeting with representatives of the National Government and the District Mayor’s Office which lasted about five hours. They made a series of requests about health care and the sanitation conditions they live in the camps.

They denounce that these conditions have been affecting, mainly, the health of minors.

According to reports, after the dialogue table arose, They took over the BBVA Bank ATM.

Also, the community assures that it intends to stay tonight in that area of ​​​​the city center and that, if necessary, they will settle there for as many days as necessary.

“Today we are not going to return to the National Park again, today we want to stay due to the health and sanitary non-compliance,” said one of the community members to CM&.

ICBF accompaniment to Embera boys and girls

For its part, ICBF indicated that there are Mobile Units on site, which are present to accompany girls and boys from the Embera communityon Carrera 8 in the center of Bogotá.

Furthermore, the ICBF also assured city ​​tv that provide prioritized care to pregnant mothers and children from the Embera community up to two years old and, in addition, minors receive care in child development centers, where children between two and five years old receive education with a differential approach.

About 300 children receive this support from the Institute. Also, the ICBF delivers food rations and carries out verification and accompaniment work within the camps.
