The group is made up of 50 countries, including the 31 of NATOand is known as “Ramstein format”since its representatives meet once a month at that military base in Germany to discuss issues related to how to act in the face of the continuation of the war.

The news was confirmed by Joe Biden’s government through the Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austinwho yesterday gave him the “welcome to Argentina” to the group at a press conference.

The incorporation was confirmed days before Milei’s participation in the peace summit for ukrainein the city of Burgenstock, Switzerland, next weekend, between June 15 and 16. There, the Argentine president will have a bilateral meeting with Zelensky himselfreturning the gesture of the Ukrainian when he came to Buenos Aires to participate in the inauguration of Milei himself.

Milei’s debut at the G7, between the wars in Gaza and Ukraine

The leaders of France, Germany, Canada, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and USA will have their annual G7 conclave in Puglia and the Italian Prime Minister will be in charge of the meetingGiorgia Meloni. Beyond the formal agenda set, on the international situation, the debate will be marked by the result of the elections in the European Parliament, the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip and trade issues with China and Africa. Furthermore, for the first time it will have the presence of the Pope Francisco; and there will be – among others – the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; and the Argentine president Javier Milei, who decided to leave his trip in limbo while his aforementioned Bases law is voted on.

Although at one point he had decided not to participate, Milei confirmed his going to Italy in what will be a new tour of the president around the world, since he also plans to attend a Summit for Peace, organized by Ukraine in Switzerland, and receive a series of awards from libertarian organizations.

As on every trip, he will go with his sister, the Legal Secretary of the Presidency, Karina Milei; and the chancellor will stay in Argentina, Diana Mondino, with whom he is confronted. Meanwhile, he delayed his flight while the Bases law was being processed.

What is the G7?

The forum complements the global economic coordination with the G20 and has permanent representation of the European Union through the European Council and the European Commission. It was consolidated after the oil crisis in 1973, as a common space for the richest countries to discuss the world economy.

The group’s members have a combined annual GDP of $40 trillion, just under half of the world’s economy.

Russia had been included in 1997, but was suspended in 2014 after it decided to annex Crimea.

Where is the Summit held?

Every year it is held in the house of the country that presides over the group, which, at the same time, is in charge of defining priorities and organizing the meeting. On this occasion, the host will be the far-right Italian Prime Minister, Meloni, who chose the luxurious Borgo Egnazia tourist complex, located in Apulia, southern Italy, as the meeting point. The international leaders will meet between June 13 and 15, but officially the work will end on Friday.
