CAMAGÜEY.- In keeping with the strengthening of ties between Cuba and Russia today, the University of Camagüey (UC) recalls the links with the recent visit of officials of its counterpart from Pyatigorsk.

To celebrate Russia Day this June 12, officials from this institution arrived, headed by Professor Natalia Khomovich.

The Hall of Symbols of the first institution of its kind founded by the Cuban Revolution in 1967, hosted the meeting between academics and Antillean Europeans who were joined by Russian students who are doing internships in the Faculties of Language and Communication, and Economic Sciences.

According to the official website of the University of Camagüey, the official herself did not waste time in showing gratitude to the Cubans for hosting them.

“Thanks to this friendly country, to this great university, to its directors, professors and students, for opening this long path to strengthening international relations between both institutions,” said Khomovich.

The academic also argued that these gestures help “contribute so that in another part of the world we can celebrate the national holiday and share the culture, feelings, history and traditions of my nation.”

The publication also reported that “the professor also gave Santiago Lajes Choy, rector of the UC, a Roadmap for strengthening the interaction between both centers; as well as Russian language and grammar manuals for the use of students and teachers of the institution”.

The UC director himself argued that “celebrating Russia Day together is of special significance because of what that nation has always meant to our people and the Revolution.”

For more than six decades, the people of Cuba and Russia have maintained a bond of more than close cooperation in fields such as science, sports or education.

Currently, several of the professors at the University of Camagüey have the experience of having studied in the former Soviet Union, an academic legacy that endures to this day.
