On May 30, the College of Magistrates had the deadline to hold the assembly in which they had to elect new authorities, but a typing error in the call for the edicts caused Legal Personería to intervene and suspend them. After this setback, the current authorities managed to correct the error within the estimated period and call a new election to be held this coming Thursday, June 27. On this occasion, and for the first time in its history, there will be two lists competing for leadership.

The College of Magistrates published the edict calling for an assembly that was stipulated for next Thursday, June 27, with a first call at 11 and a second call at 12. The event will take place at the headquarters located on Rioja Avenue, between General Paz and July 9. Despite the request of both lists, extending voting hours was not authorized because it went against the College’s statutes and could only be done at the times already determined.

What is unprecedented is that two lists will face each other for the first time in their history, since the ruling party will seek to maintain itself for one more term and will seek to ensure that the current president Ana Lía Larrea remains in the top position. In contrast, Adriana Tettamanti heads the opposition list that will seek to dethrone the current authorities.

A little more than 90 members of the College of Magistrates are qualified for the election and they are the ones who will define by secret vote who will command the destiny of the institution for the next period. In total, the College has more than 200 members, but just under half meet the requirements to pay.

The origin of the lists that will compete

The ruling party is representing Ana Lía Larrea, who is the current president who seeks to endorse her leadership before the associates. Her running mate, Carlos Fernández Collado, has a past linked to Peronism and close to the Limas. The candidate for third member is Juan Luis Romero, a judge who in his past held positions within the Giojista administration. Meanwhile, Marianela López was linked at the time with Together for Change, a judge who is a substitute candidate as part of the review body of the official list.

The opposition list headed by Adriana Tettamanti was politically linked to Giojism and is also accused of building bridges with Orreguism. So much so that she was seen in political activities of the ruling party together with Alejandro Ferrari, legal advisor to the Government, and the vice-governor Fabián Martín. In addition, she ran several times to be minister of the Court of Justice during the administration of Uñac and she did not succeed, the last nomination being the most controversial, since the current court judge, Adriana García Nieto, was elected.

The candidate for vice president of the opposition, Guillermo Baigorrí was a former candidate for senator of the Basualdism and even made the headlines of all the media because he resigned from the bank so that the current trustee of Banco San Juan could take over.

One of the candidates for titular member is Jorge Toro and he was an official in the Gioja administration in the Ministry of Human Development, he was even appointed before the Gioja administration ended. Carolina Parra aspires to the same position and is known for being the daughter of José Luis Gioja’s lawyer; and finally, Julieta Mercado, who is the wife of Daniel Turón, who was the right hand of Daniel Tomás.
