Looking ahead to next summer, a time when water consumption increases significantly, and with the aim of helping to face the drought that Patquía is going through, The government of La Rioja is carrying out important tasks and two new boreholes will be incorporated into the town’s water circuit.

In this context, the province’s Water Secretariat explained that “The town of Patquía has drinking water from two different places, one is from the fields that come from Tudcum, which are three boreholes, of which all three are operating normally, and another sector is from the road that goes to Villa Unión, at kilometer 21 where there is a perforation”.

In this framework of work, they assured that it was achieved “an agreement with an individual in the area that has a borehole that is two kilometers further from this previous one and that produces a flow of thirty thousand liters per hour that we are going to practically double what is coming through the 160 aqueduct from the kilometer 21 towards the town of Patquía. This will bring about a notable improvement in the summer, when we have greater consumption when it is most needed.”

Along these lines, they highlighted that these two new boreholes are a great contribution to the water infrastructure, beyond the water contribution they make since they will have two boreholes in operation in case one deteriorates. “We have the possibility of saving the situation by leaving the other one functioning and we do not have the emergencies that sometimes occur”they added.

At the same time, the work operation includes the construction of an aqueduct of approximately 2,500 meters with a diameter of 90 millimeters that links the two boreholes, and which will be completed during this week to leave it operational.

“This means that we are going to have, God willing, a summer that is a little calmer than the previous one due to the drought that caused the Tudcum springs to dry up practically all of them, not a drop of water comes from all the springs, so which must be replaced by these perforations”they explained.
