Workers in a copper mine BHP Group in Chile they accepted the company’s latest salary offer, ending the tense collective bargaining process in an operation that represents approximately 1% of the world’s supply.

Spence workers voted in favor of a preliminary agreement reached between management and union leaders in mediated talks this week, the union said in a text message Friday.

Avoid a strike in Spencerwhich last year produced about 250,000 metric tons, eases tensions in a busy collective bargaining schedule in Chile at a time when high copper prices are boosting producers’ profits and inflating their workers’ wage expectations.

Attention now turns to BHP’s other Chilean operation, Escondida, which is more than four times the size of Spencer and has been the scene of long strikes in the past.
