Caputo’s number two resigns and is replaced by a Wall Street expert: who is he?

He Vice Minister of Economy, Joaquín Cottaniwill resign at the end of the month and will be replaced by economist José Luis Daza, a Wall Street expert who lived for years in Chile, as reported by Minister Luis Caputo’s entourage.

This was confirmed to Noticias Argentinas by sources from the Treasury Palace.

Cottani, who was Domingo Cavallo’s Undersecretary of Financing, I would go back to New York.

The departure will be added to the almost 40 casualties of officials that the Government has been having since the assumption of Javier Milei.

As confirmed by NA, Cottani resigned for family reasons, since the family stayed in New York and has a hard time getting back and forth all the time.


José Luis Daza, the man chosen by Caputo to replace Cottani


The candidate to replace him is Daza, an economist who worked with Caputo at investment banks JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank.

Daza also lives abroad, so he is settling his personal issues before his appointment is confirmed.

Before knowing this change, Daza referred to the recent approval in the Argentine Senate of the basic law proposed by the government of Javier Milei, and inflation of 4.2% in Argentina, the lowest value since January 2022, when it had been 3.9%.

Regarding the measures that Milei has taken to reduce the deficit, maintained that “the cost was paid by the middle class. The poorest classes have seen a very significant increase in direct assistance expenses.”

Daza was founder of QFR Capital Managementwhich became one of the most important emerging markets hedge funds, along with the Argentines David Sekiguchi and Demian Reidel, currently on the advisory board of Javier Milei.

He was representative of the Central Bank of Chile in Asia, based in Tokyo. Later, head of emerging markets at JP Morgan, where he met Caputo, and at Deutsche Bank.

Daza has doctoral studies in Economics from Georgetown University and is an economist from the University of Chile.

In Chile, in the last presidential campaign, his name was mentioned as a possible Minister of Economy if José Antonio Kast won.
