The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge, every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., until July 13 (Delegation of the European Union in Argentina)

From June 13 to July 13, the “Plaza de Aguas” of the Ecopark of the City of Buenos Aires will be the setting for a photographic exhibition dedicated to biodiversity in Argentina. This exhibition, part of the second edition of the photography contest organized by the European Unionaims to highlight the importance of biodiversity conservation and raise public awareness about its protection.

The event, opening on June 14, 2024, offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate Argentina’s biological diversity and unique landscapes through stunning images captured by talented photographers. The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge, every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., until July 13.

The exhibition has been organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Argentinain collaboration with the Argentine School of Photography and the Austral Light Foundation. This alliance seeks to combine efforts to promote the conservation of biodiversity and raise awareness about the impact of human activities on ecosystems.

One of the main objectives of the exhibition is increase awareness about the 25% of biodiversity in Argentina that is in danger of extinction due to human activities. The exhibition is part of the initiatives of the European Green Dealwhich promotes environmental protection and the fight against climate change.

The photographs exhibited offer a unique perspective on the biological wealth of Argentina, highlighting the beauty of its landscapes, species and eco-regions. Each image invites us to reflect on the delicate balance of nature and the impact of human actions on this balance.

Biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation are significant global threats. In response, the European Union has developed a biodiversity strategy that seeks to reverse this trend by 2030. This strategy is a fundamental part of the European Green Deal and reflects the commitment of the EU and its Member States to the protection of nature.

Amador Sánchez RicoAmbassador of the European Union in Argentina, highlighted the importance of the exhibition: “This exhibition is one of the many actions that we carry out from the European Union to give visibility to the great biodiversity of this beautiful country and highlight the importance of care enviroment”. Helda Harringtondirector of the Argentine School of Photography, also expressed her gratitude to all the participants and highlighted the quality of the images received.

The exhibition seeks to offer a perspective that highlights the diversity and beauty of the landscapes, species and eco-regions of Argentina, in line with the European Green Deal (Delegation of the European Union in Argentina)

The Water Square in the Ecoparque, a conservation center for endangered native species, has been chosen to display the 24 large-format images of the winners and special mentions. This exhibition is designed to be accessible to the whole family, offering a free tour that allows visitors to connect with the nature and biodiversity of Argentina.

The winners of the second European Union digital photography contest are:

  • First prize: Gonzalo Granja, with the photograph “Message from the sea” – Camarones, Chubut.
  • Second prize: Cayetano Aricidiácono, with “Reflection of Alameda” – Potrerillos, Mendoza.
  • Third award: Adrián Serniotti, with “Copos de Algodón” – Bosques de los Constituciónntes, Rosario, Santa Fe.
