Students from the Polytechnic High School of Puerto Aysén participate in a talk on child labor – Radio45Sur.cl

About 40 students from the Puerto Aysén Polytechnic High School participated in the talk “My First Job”, within the framework of the World Day against Child Labor. The activity was carried out by the Children and Adolescents Defend themselves programs and the Labor Ombudsman’s Office of the Aysén Judicial Assistance Corporation. The students learned about the differences between child labor and sheltered work, working hours, remuneration, and permitted and prohibited jobs.

The Head of the Technical Pedagogical Unit of the Polytechnic High School, María Francisca Alfaro, highlighted the importance of this initiative for students in the specialties of industrial mechanics and nursing care. “Our goal is to prepare them for their professional practice and their insertion into the world of work. Having this legal regulatory framework is a tool that will help them exercise their rights,” said Alfaro.

The Seremi of Justice and Human Rights, Samuel Navarro Castro, highlighted the dynamic and playful presentation of the professionals of Children and Adolescents Defend and the Labor Ombudsman’s Office. The regional director of the Judicial Assistance Corporation, María Francisca Vilches, stressed the importance of informing young people about the differences between prohibited child labor and protected work, the relevant concepts, the working day and remuneration. The activity sought to nourish students with knowledge for their future employment.
