Through a Unified Command Post (PMU) installed in the Mayor’s Office of Lorica, Córdoba, six critical points detected in the Sinú River due to erosion and flooding are monitored. These are the following in rural areas:

-Boca de Nueva Colombia- Cotocá Arriba

-Boca de Sarandelo – Sarandelo

-Boca de Mompos- Mata de Caña

-Boca del Yita- Sabá Island

-Corregimiento Los Gómez

-El Campano- Mata de Caña

“Due to the high level of the flow of the Sinú River due to the strong rainy season It is necessary to reinforce the banks to prevent further damage to homes and crops. For this reason, we will continue working tirelessly and hand in hand with the community in provisional works,” it was reported by the municipal administration chaired by Mayor Carlos Manzur, who inspected these sectors.

– Sarandelo Community insists on definitive works to avoid flooding:

W Radio spoke by telephone with the president of the Community Action Board of the Sarandelo village, Ángel Hernández, who stated that it would be traumatic to face floods like those recorded in 2021. Since then, only mitigation works have been proposed, but not definitive. .

We are reinforcing the points, but they are only reinforcements, that does not guarantee us that we will not be flooded; We are only preventing leaks to prevent them from getting bigger.“said the leader.

From 2021 to date, two works have been carried out, but they are mitigation, works that I do not know how much they cost because in reality they are works that one here as a community says: they are of no use. They are works that put weight on the median, one of these took away half of the median, so we see that it is not functional. So much study in a mitigation work for what…not at all, because if it were a definitive work, then that’s fine, but a work that will last a year and what we do by hand lasts two years, so it is better what we do,” added the leader.

Both municipal and departmental administrations have indicated that they do not have resources for definitive works. However, They have provided machinery for provisional works in this area, where more than 100 families are at high risk.

At the moment, the municipality of Lorica is in a public calamity due to the intense rains that have raised the levels of the Sinú River, which has nearly 2,000 families in areas such as Montería, Cereté, San Pelayo and Lorica itself in emergency, according to a report from the Ombudsman’s Office.
