This Saturday the final of the Super Rugby Americas 2024 was played and, in this way, the new champion is already known: Dogos XV. The Córdoba team became strong as a visitor and defeated Pampas XV 37 to 23 to lift the first trophy in its history. Thanks to this, he ended a streak of two consecutive consecrations for the Uruguayan franchise Peñarol, so the title finally stays in Argentina for the second time (the only one so far had been in 2021, when Jaguares XV celebrated).

The disputed definition in ‘La Catedral’ of the Club Atlético de San Isidro (CASI), was not very entertaining. At least not so much compared to what was expected. Even, at times, the stands, completely packed, took all the flashes due to the constant encouragement of the fans. Perhaps out of fear, nervousness or inexperience, both teams chose to try to attack, but the points came mostly from infractions. The first stage ended with a partial advantage of 16 to 15 in favor of Pampas XV. But in the complement, the Córdoba team took the initiative and decided to gamble his last chips to overcome the result.

Juan Bautista Baronio, who entered the second half in place of Julián Hernández due to concussion protocol, became a figure with five converted penalties which allowed La Docta to take a 30-16 lead with just 10 minutes left in the game. Near the end, already in stoppage time, Facundo Scaiano put definitive numbers so that the duel concluded 37 to 23. Before the trophy is raised, Joaquín de la Vega Mendía, scorer of the contest with 161 points, and Santiago Pernas, tryman with 10, were awarded MVP and revelation of the 2024 edition of the Super Rugby Americas, respectively.

The American franchise professional rugby championship began in 2020, although the tournament was canceled in the middle of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The first champion was crowned in 2021 and was Jaguares XV, in what, to date, was the only Argentine celebration of the contest. Then came two consecutive victories for Peñarol of Uruguay, the first in 2022 in the American Super League and the second, in 2023, already under the name of Super Rugby Americas.
