The receptacles cannot be opened by anyone, so they cannot be intervened inside, thus minimizing the deposit of voluminous waste and the risk of being vandalized, a problem that is aggravated by irresponsible people who throw debris and people who dig through the waste. It is expected to advance to other neighborhoods on the hill and the plan.
A new model of containers for the deposit of household waste in the city is being implemented by the Municipality of Viña del Mar, within the framework of a pilot plan whose objective is to improve the system for the benefit of the people of Viñamarinas.
The plan considers 32 new receptacles, which unlike the current green containers, the new deposits do not have a pedal to open the lid with the foot, so they can only be opened by the collection truck.
“The care and cleanliness of the city is a priority to have safer public spaces, with better environments for Viñamarina families and those who visit us. We are developing this work in the plan and in the hill neighborhoods of our commune. In addition to the upcoming incorporation of 10 new waste collection trucks, we have implemented in a pilot plan new, more modern containers with better utility, which have already been arranged in the western sector,” said Mayor Macarena Ripamonti.
He added in this regard that “there are many complaints that reach the Municipality regarding the misuse of those green receptacles, where some irresponsible people leave debris and even take out the garbage from inside, contaminating the streets. The new ones will be gray and reduce the possibility of removing the garbage from inside manually. That is why the call is for neighbors to continue exposing those who seek to harm the cleaning work and contaminate Viña del Mar.”
The modality allows the container to be less vandalized, prevents its interior from being intervened by third parties and prevents the depositing of bulky waste that saturates the receptacles, since they are designed for the deposit of regular-sized garbage bags (maximum 70 cm).
In the event that neighbors require a larger bag, it must be deposited in a nearest green container.
Regarding commercial premises – mainly restaurants – they must hire the special service to eliminate their productive waste.
At the end of the pilot phase, and depending on its evaluation, the idea is that the companies providing the waste collection service in the city incorporate the new container model in future tenders, with the aim of achieving a cleaner environment in the city. city.
It should be noted that for the disposal of bulky waste (mattress, appliance, etc.), the installation of a basin must be coordinated through the respective Neighborhood Council.
