With the growth of mining activity in the Puna of Salta, road accidents on complicated high altitude routes became recurrent. In the majority of accidents, the so-called human factor or incompetence was decisive in the often fatal outcomes. Therefore, prevention in this area is key.

Along these lines, the Professional Council of Surveyors, Engineers and Related Professions (Copaipa) of Salta included a talk on management among the activities organized by the institution for the celebration of the so-called engineering month.

Next Wednesday the 19th, the conference “Defensive Driving: The role of the driver in the high mountain environment” will be held. It will take place, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Copaipa headquarters, at Zuviría 291. The workshop can also be followed virtually and registration is free, with limited space.

The dissertation will be given by the graduate in Hygiene and Safety, Tomás José Dragone, one of the partners of the consulting firm Runa and with vast experience in the mining area.

According to the specialist The Tribunewill provide, among other topics, an overview of the accidents in the Puna area and the projections of vehicle circulation expected in the area.

“Defensive driving consists of anticipating dangerous situations in order to avoid accidents or accidents,” Dragone explained.

He noted that dangerous situations come from factors such as the state of the road, the weather, visibility, the vehicle and, most critically, the driver.

In his talk he will refer to the “organizational factors” that influence the driver and the available resources, absent or scarce in the Puna.

Those interested in participating in the training can contact the Copaipa Foundation at 387-4214007, WhatsApp 3875683908 or visit www.fundacioncopaipa.org.ar.
