Santiago de Cuba.— The Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Orlando Miguel Maneiro Gaspar, Captain Ronald José Briseño Huerta, commander of the Simón Bolívar Training Ship of that nation’s Navy, other members of the diplomatic corps present in the territory and the ship’s leadership, made a courtesy visit to the Government of Santiago de Cuba the day before.

At the meeting, Manuel Falcón Hernández, governor of the province, thanked the crew for their presence and officially welcomed them to the Hero City, rebellious and hospitable, cradle of the Cuban Revolution.

Maneiro Gaspar, on behalf of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, said he was honored by the warm reception for the ship known as “Ambassador without Borders” and recognized the strength of the ties of friendship and cooperation that both countries maintain.

The commander of the “Simón Bolívar” delivered the Metope representative of the ship to Falcón Hernández and the second chief of the Navy of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, flotilla captain José Luis Souto Galindo, who reciprocated the gesture.

After an exchange of gifts enlivened by the Santiago violinist José Carlos Puentes, the participants in the entertainment remembered historical moments of the city, such as the trial of the assailants of the former Moncada barracks.

Every time we are in the so-called Capital of the Caribbean we have a very positive experience, here you always learn something, it is a very welcoming place and full of information, said Briseño Huerta and affirmed that the navy of both countries will continue with their bow towards the future, because both in Cuba and in Venezuela we have a Revolution for a while.

Another special moment was the crew’s tour of the Santa Ifigenia heritage cemetery, where they placed a wreath on the tomb of José Martí, the most universal of Cubans, as a worthy tribute to the one who fought for the unity of the Latin American peoples.

They also paid tribute with loose flowers to the historical Leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, unconditional friend of Hugo Chávez and the Bolivarian nation.

This is the fifth visit of the Simón Bolívar Training Ship to Santiago de Cuba and will last until June 19.
