Manjarrés is one of the smallest towns in the entire Nájera region. Located halfway between the valley and the mountains, its little more than one hundred neighbors enjoy the pleasure and company that comes from having close contact with each other. Here, more than asking you to pick up a package or not to make noise, the person who knocks on your door usually does so to offer you something. At this time of year, for example, cherries from the orchard.

Following this harmony, a breath of fresh air has arrived in the town a few days ago that promises to bring excitement and novelty, especially in summer. This is Nora Alicia, a Colombian woman, living in Tricio, who has rented the Manjarrés bar and intends to bring her Cali rhythm to the small town.

“Hospitality is my passion, I used to have an establishment in Logroño, but at this time in my life I prefer the tranquility here,” she says. It was her daughter who found out that the Manjarrés bar was up for rent and she didn’t think twice. “The only one who gives me problems is my husband, who says that he is going to have to do all the errands for me,” Nora comments with a smile on her face.

At the moment, the contract agreed with the City Council is for one year and, depending on how it goes, it could continue for up to three more. In these first days of opening, the plumbers and delivery people who pass through the premises, leaving everything ready, mix with Manjarrés’ customers. “So far they are mainly cafes, but as the days go by and everything is in order, I intend to give lunches and dinners mixing the best of Spanish and Colombian cuisine,” he says with enthusiasm.

His arrival in Manjarrés promises to be a breath of fresh air for the establishment in particular, and the town in general. The main advantage is that, since the premises are secluded, in a small square, the atmosphere is very close. “I can already imagine what we’re going to do here this summer, to the rhythm of cumbia,” a young local resident jokes with her.

During the coming times, the inhabitants of Manjarrés will be able to enjoy all the Colombian delicacies. “Sancocho, tamales, cholado… those are my specialties,” explains Nora. While she talks, she imagines where she is going to install the new decoration to give the place a more Caribbean look. “I am very excited about this new stage,” she concludes.
