Colombia has enough fertilizer companies, the sum of the production capacities of the actors even doubles internal consumption, which is around 1.8M MT per year.

In net annual sales income, four companies are around or exceed $1 billion: Yara, Monómeros+Ecofertil, CI Acepalma and Precisagro. It is worth noting that the turnover of most companies in the union is not only a product of the sale of fertilizers and can include exports. Meanwhile, import figures in 2023, according to Multiport (2024), total 1,969,415 MT per year.

Yara, a Norwegian company with a 20.2% share of Colombia’s fertilizer imports in 2023 and net sales revenues in 2023 of close to $2 billion, is a company with various product lines, including specialty and soluble products.

Monómeros+Ecofertil, Venezuelan, and with more than 55 years of tradition, has a widely recognized brand: Nutrimon. Its sales revenue in 2023 exceeded $1 billion and its imports represented 14.6% of the country’s total in this segment.

Precisagro, an entity of the international corporation Disagro of Guatemala, with fertilizer, crop protection and digital agriculture products, with net sales revenues close to one trillion COP in 2023 and 14.7% of imports with close to 290K MT.

CI Acepalma, a Colombian company from the palm oil industry, with 93,000 MT represented 4.7% of imports, and net sales income of 1.5 billion COP in 2023.

Nitrofert invoiced around $780,000 million in 2023 and imported 16% of the national import volume.

Plant Nutrition, from the Mexican corporation Tepeyac, imported 141K MT in 2022, representing 7.2% of the country and earned just over $369MM COP in sales in 2022.

Disan, a national company with fertilizers, food and chemical products, imported about 97K MT in 2023 for 5% of imports. Report half a billion COP in net sales income in 2023.

Ciamsa, a company of Colombian sugar mills, imported 3.5% of Colombia’s total imports under its name and obtained net sales income in 2023 of around $520MM COP.

EvoAgro, with mainly North American mixed capital, innovating with a financing division, imported approximately 76,000 MT in 2023 and obtained sales income of $66MM COP in five months of operation.

Finally, Manuchar, with origins in Belgium and participation of North American capital, thanks to its portfolio of fertilizers and chemical products, invoiced close to $360MM in 2022 and by 2023 imported 75.5K MT of fertilizers.

It should be noted that the companies in which sales figures for 2022 are presented are not comparable to the rest, given that in 2023 sales prices decreased.

Likewise, there are other important companies with a lower volumetric level in fertilizers, among others, PazdelRío with its thermophosphates, Agromil of the Corona Group, Agrosilicium, Rio Claro, Microfertisa, Colinagro, which highlights its age and relevance with 76 years, market positioning made by Camporfert, and the innovation and differentiation that Ecoline demonstrates.

For companies that have combinations with businesses other than fertilizers, this characteristic becomes a strength of attention, diversification and a basis for facing fluctuations in international fertilizer prices.

Many situations can occur, but in general terms the country has good fertilizer supply conditions, although it is dependent on imports.

The expectation of growth in the national production of fertilizers continues, the dialogue table of the National Mining Agency ANM continues to promote the issue, universities and union entities investigating, and companies seeking developments
