Cuba alert with two cyclonic areas near the island

Cuban Meteorological specialists remain alert regarding the formation this Sunday of two cyclonic areas near the island, which could have consequences. What do the specialists say?

According to meteorologist Raydel Ruiz Sánchez, quoted by the official reporter, Lázaro Manuel Alonso on his Facebook profile, the hurricane season is beginning to wake up near Cuba and they are already closely monitoring two areas of possible cyclonic formation.

“The first related to a large area of low pressure over Yucatán, this will emerge into the Gulf of Mexico where conditions will become favorable for its development and we could have a tropical cyclone during the middle of the week moving towards the west-northwest producing intense rains in sectors from southern Mexico and Central America,” said the meteorologist.

Another area northeast of The Bahamas has low possibilities so far, but by mid-week the conditions could be favorable for the formation of a low pressure center and its subsequent development,” he added.

In the radar images, the two large zones of cyclonic areas near Cuba are evident, especially that of the Bahamas, which would also be affected by Florida, at least with rain, if its development does not advance much.

Cyclonic areas near Cuba from now on

The presence of these cyclonic areas of possible cyclone formation, since mid-June 2024, demonstrates what specialists have been warning from Cuba and the United States, at the Miami Hurricane Center. It will be a very active season in the Atlantic.

NOAA Miami increased its prediction of cyclonic activity for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season in late May.

NOAA’s updated forecast indicated a range of 17 to 25 named storms, of which 8 to 13 could become hurricanes. This means the season has an 85% chance of being busier than normal.
