The new territorial center of the University of Córdoba in Puente Genil will provide training in September

The Ricardo Molina Library of Genil Bridge has hosted the official inauguration of the Territorial Center of the University of Córdoba in the Ponta city destined for technological development. The first formation activities of this center will be offered starting next month September and we will also work with micro-credentials, with between 15 and 20 places, to be more flexible and at the request of society and companies. It is the third center of this type sponsored after Lucena and Pozoblanco.

The event was attended by the Councilor for University, Research and Innovation of the Board, José Carlos Gómez; the rector of the University of Córdoba, Manuel Torralbo; the president of the CECO, Antonio Diaz; and the director of the new university center, Juan Carlos Gámez, along with businessmen and various personalities from the society of Puente Genil and the region.

He Mayor Sergio Velasco has highlighted the City Council’s commitment to turning the town into a “university city”, through a territorial center which he said “will offer top quality programming to improve talent and training for students and workers in the field of new technologies, which is the future.

With this aspiration, the local councilor highlighted the Puente Genil enclave to be a logistical node, the municipality being «AVE citya competitive factor to be able to lead and become the benchmark town in Andalusia in terms of innovation and at an industrial level.

Three axes

Gómez Villamandos has highlighted, for his part, the importance of entrepreneurship, “those new technology-based companies so that they can contribute to territorial development. In this sense, the head of the University has stated that “social and territorial cohesion results in solvent and strong companies.”

The counselor has highlighted that the University of Córdoba will have more than 800,000 euros to provide university microcredentialswithin the framework of the subsidies amounting to 8.86 million euros that the Ministry will call before September for the ten Andalusian public universities for the development of this strategic training for professional qualification.

For his part, Manuel Torralbo explained that the center is based on three axes: training (both for students and companies); the investigation (through industrial doctorates); and the knowledge transfer with extracurricular activities that will be practical in companies. For example, computer science students who would do their internships at the Puente Genil Town Hall during the month of July.

The director of the new center has indicated that it will not house a degree within the University, although it is intended to have a classroom that will accommodate a university extension “similar to the case of Belmez».
