Specialized agents from the General Directorate of Customs-AFIP discovered 6.5 kg of cocaine in a long-distance bus in Salta. The vehicle, which was traveling from the northern border of Argentina, had parcels in its hold, so Customs personnel scanned the packages with the agency’s scan van.

The X-ray equipment returned suspicious images regarding two parcels, since rectangular packages could be seen inside the merchandise they were carrying, a speaker and an electric stove.

The scanner indicated that the packages had a density compatible with an organic substance, so K9 personnel were summoned. Indeed, the Customs dog marked the packages in question, exhibiting behavior consistent with the presence of narcotics.

Customs notified Justice, which authorized the opening of the packages, in which the presence of 6 bricks of cocaine was found, with a total weight of 6,548 kilograms. The estimated value of the drugs amounts to $82,800,000.

The Federal Court of Guarantees of Salta and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office for Complex Crimes intervened. With their authorization, Customs and the Argentine National Gendarmerie (GNA) carried out the supervised delivery of the parcels, which resulted in the arrest of a woman.
